Ohio law requires all patients to undergo an initial consultation at least 24 hours prior to having an abortion.

During your first appointment, a patient advocate will help you schedule your abortion procedure at our facility. We perform surgical abortions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Abortion is a common experience: At current rates, about one in three American women will have had an abortion by the time she reaches age 45.

What is a surgical abortion?

This is the “traditional” method of abortion. Using a procedure called Dilation and Curettage (D&C), the cervix is dilated and suction aspiration is used to empty the uterus.

Abortion is one of the safest surgical procedures for women in the United States. Fewer than 0.5% of women obtaining abortions experience a complication, and the risk of death associated with abortion is about one-tenth that associated with childbirth.

Is surgical abortion safe?

First-trimester and early second-trimester surgical abortions carry a low risk for complication.

This procedure is safer than childbirth and takes 5 to 10 minutes to complete. Most women can resume a normal schedule within a day or two.

Abortions performed in the first trimester pose virtually no long-term risk of such problems as infertility, ectopic pregnancy, spontaneous abortion (miscarriage) or birth defect, and little or no risk of preterm or low-birth-weight deliveries.

How Long will I be there on my surgery day?

You can expect to be at our facility for about 3 to 5 hours on the day of your procedure. You will be given a medication to help soften your cervix, which takes at least an hour to take effect.

The procedure itself only takes a few minutes.

After your surgery is over, you will spend at least 20 minutes in the relaxation room, where a nurse will monitor your recovery. Before leaving, you will be given discharge instructions and antibiotics to take home.

HOW MUCH WILL MY PROCEDURE COST?

We offer surgical abortions up to 16 weeks 6 days gestation. Your first step is to schedule your first visit and receive an ultrasound at our facility to ensure you are under this gestational threshold.

An initial consultation is $100, which will go towards the cost of your abortion procedure at our facility.

A first-trimester procedure (under 12 weeks) starts at $425, but there are multiple factors that can impact the cost of your abortion:

  • Gestational age of the pregnancy

  • Rh factor (negative blood type requires rhogam)

  • Pain management medication options

  • Body Mass Index: +$100 for a bmi of 35 or more

  • Metal medical implants: +$5 for antibiotics

You can use this PRICING GUIDE to help you calculate an estimate of your total.

When can i resume my birth control regimen?

You can resume birth control on the Sunday after your procedure. If you are interested in birth control, a nurse can go over your options with you in the Recovery Room after your abortion procedure.

We can provide you with a prescription for oral contraception or vaginal rings, which you can take to your pharmacy to get it filled.

We also offer the Depo Provera shot and IUD insertion (for an additional fee).
